We have had a very busy week with meeting from our different parish committees. We met with the Calvary
Cemetery Board, on Tuesday, October 10, the members being; Peter Frosolone, Karen Heyn, Marie Maloney Kris
Nuter, Patrick O’Brien, and Connie Weaver. This committee meets two times a year unless another meeting is
needed. There was a discussion about having a light installed on the flag pole, automatic water shut offs,
cemetery clean up and the retirement of our cemetery sexton.
The Parish Finance Committee, met on Tuesday October 10, also. The members of this committee are Jan Fischer,
Nancy Hamilton, Deacon Ed Nickel, Tom Strzyzykowski, Jim Visin, Rajesh William, and Diane Petlick. The Quarterly
Statement was reviewed. A list to Capital maintenance projects were shared with the council. The completed
projects were the stained glass at St. John’s Church and the roof at the St. John’s School. There was a grant
submitted to the Catholic Foundation of SW Michigan for the roof and tuck-pointing work that needs to be done at
the Readiness Center. We are continuing to receive estimates for that project. The council approved obtaining
quotes at St. Bernard’s for a new sign in front of the building, an auto open and close door for handicap access to
the sanctuary, and replacing the boiler system, which in the long run will be more cost effective.
The parents of Our Lady of the Lake met on Sunday, October 15. Although it was a small group, there was a very
good discussion of how to include our OL and Religious Ed students in the weekend Mass. Starting November 19
and monthly on the third Sunday, there will be a Children’s Mass at St. Bernard’s Church at 11:00 am. I will be
looking for lectors, servers, and ushers. Please contact the parish office to sign up.
I am meeting with our Worship Committee to plan our Masses through the next 3 months. This group will meet
quarterly and consist of representatives from the choir, sacristans, and ushers.
Our Parish Council group is set, and we will be meeting in the near future.
