The Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as the Sacrament of Penance, or Penance and Reconciliation) has three elements: conversion, confession, and celebration. In it we find God's unconditional forgiveness, and as a result we are called to forgive others. Penance is a sacrament of the New Law instituted by Christ in which forgiveness of sins committed after Baptism is granted through the priest's absolution to those who with true sorrow confess their sins and promise to satisfy for the same. It is called a "sacrament" not simply a function or ceremony, because it is an outward sign instituted by Christ to impart grace to the soul.
Preparation for First Penance occurs in 2nd grade, and includes work outside of the classroom and attendance at several meetings, in addition to class attendance. Contact the Parish Office to obtain more information.
Older students who have not received the sacraments may contact their Pastor or the Parish Office for guidance and information on programs available to them.
